TEXT: Proverbs 3:9-10; Romans 11:16, Leviticus 23:10.

Proverbs 3:9 says Honor the Lord with thy substance, and with the FIRSTFRUITS of all thine increase: Verse 10 says So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.

Rom.11:16 says for if the FIRSTFRUITS be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches.

Leviticus 23:10 says “When you come into the land which I give you and reap its harvest, then you shall bring a sheaf of the first fruits of your harvest to the priest,” Leviticus 23:10. It is to be set apart as holy unto God!

Opening Prayer:

Oh Lord our God, the bible says you had been our dwelling place from generation past. Before the mountains were brought forth or ever thou have formed the earth, even from everlasting to everlasting, you are God. For this reason we give you thanks and praises, we honor your Holy name and we say thank you because you do always opens our ears to ear the truth in your word and to see the blessings inherent in it. Today Father please open our ears to hear again and our eyes to see the secrets of overwhelming blessings in your word and help us to be diligent enough to do accordingly in Jesus name we pray. Amen.

The Bible is replete with virtually inexhaustible provisions for Man’s comfort here on earth and in eternity. The oldest singular limitation is Man’s refusal to simply obey the WORD of GOD. 3 John 2 for instance reaffirmed God’s persistent intention and plan for man: Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prosperity. However, God not wanting to appear to man as a Dictator, grants man the freewill to enjoy virtually endless benefits ONLY on the condition of total obedience, to the giver of these benefits -The Almighty GOD.

God instructed Moses to expose the secret of overwhelming blessings to His chosen Nation of Israel. Moses obeyed God by stating the conditions precedent to man enjoying God’s overwhelming blessings. In the Books of Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy, Moses stated the significance of FIRSTFRUIT OFFERING, in not less than thirteen (13) occasions.

Exodus 23:19 stipulates strict obedience to giving of FIRSTFRUIT OFFERING. He repeated this again in Exodus 34:26. To remove any ambiguity on the significance of FIRSTFRUIT, God expressly instructed Moses again in Leviticus 23:10 that the euphoria of victory and celebration of wonderful accomplishment must not be allowed to obliterate compliance with His instruction on FIRSTFRUIT OFFERING.

For brevity, let us itemize important points to note on FIRSTFRUIT OFFERING:

  1. FIRSTFRUIT OFFERING must be taken to God’s house (Exodus 23:19; 34:26);
  2. The FIRSTFRUIT OFFERING must be delivered to the Priest of the Nation (Lev.23:10; Numbers 18:42) otherwise known as the High Priest as at then in Israel (Numbers 3:32);
  3. The FIRSTFRUIT OFFERING shall apply to all a man engages in for livelihood (Deuteronomy 18:4);
  4. The giving of FIRSTFRUIT OFFERING must be accompanied with worship (Deuteronomy 26:10);
  5. It must be offered once and during each cycle of harvest, which was yearly in biblical time (Nehemiah 10:35). It must however be noted that in situations of multiple planting seasons within one year, FIRSTFRUIT OFFERING becomes due after each harvest exercise;
  6. The FIRSTFRUIT is the exclusive preserve of the one considered the Nation’s Man of God (II Kings 4:42); and
  7. The FIRSTFRUIT in Hebrew is “bikkurim” and literally means “promise to come.” And there is ONE who never breaks His promise – God! That is why the truth behind this “promise to come” in God’s Word is so powerful. Though long overlooked by many, this divine establishment of God’s order of things is actually the root that governs the rest. When you KEEP FIRST THINGS FIRST through faith and obedience, you turn God’s promise into provision… ABUNDANT PROVISION! The giving of FIRSTFRUIT must be done promptly along with payment of tithe ( II Chronicles 31:5).

  1. Givers of FIRSTFRUIT OFFERING enjoy God’s comprehensive insurance. Jeremiah 2:3 says God issues automatic judgment on whoever or whatsoever attempts to devour givers of FIRSTFRUIT
  2. Isaiah 61:7, “Instead of your shame you will receive a double portion, and instead of disgrace you will rejoice in your inheritance. And so you will inherit a double portion in your land, and everlasting joy will be yours.”
  3. God can be called upon to specially favor the giver of FIRSTFRUIT (Nehemiah 13:31);
  4. The Old Testament text: Proverbs 3:9-10, state clearly that in addition to God honoring the giver of FIRSTFRUIT OFFERING, the giver also enjoys overflowing blessings from the Almighty God;
  5. The Old Testament text further implies that the honor rendered unto God by the giver of FIRSTFRUITS automatically attracts greater dimension of honor from GOD (I Sam 2:30b).
  6. FIRSTFRUITS are giving the first portion to GOD. Romans 11:16 says, “If the part of a dough offered as FIRSTFRUITS is HOLY, then the whole batch is HOLY; if the root is HOLY, so are the branches”. Giving the first portion of your finances to God will cause all of your finances for the rest of the year to be HOLY. FIRSTFRUITS causes God to treat your finances as HOLY giving you favor with GOD because your finances are connected to the FIRST FRUIT OFFERING.
  7. Ezekiel 44:30 “The first of all FIRSTFRUITS of every kind and every contribution of every kind, from all your contributions, shall be for the priests: you shall also give to the priest the first of your dough to cause a blessing to rest on your house.” FIRSTFRUITS impart a blessing on your home. Many times a financial blessing is not our main need or concern. Having a blessing on your home positions you to have healing in your physical, spiritual and emotional need for you and your family. When you give FIRSTFRUITS not only do you benefit but your saved and unsaved loved ones do also.

God’s intention is that Man lives a life of true dominion, comfort and overwhelming blessings. However, realizing this divine desire depends on Man’s prompt, total and consistent obedience to God’s instructions, one of which is giving of FIRSTFRUIT OFFERING.

Closing Prayers: If you have observed that your sincere desire to obey God promptly, totally and consistently, is being frustrated by inability to do so, Jesus is ready to give you the grace right NOW. All you need is to accept Jesus as your Lord and personal Saviour, begin to attend a Bible teaching Church near your home, you will receive grace to experience God’s Overwhelming blessings.

What does new testament say about first fruit? Apostle Paul let us know that first fruit is the first soul you win in your new environment.

    • Grce

It’s not just in soul winning. It is all that you increase in. Proverbs 3:9 says Honor the Lord with thy substance, and with the FIRSTFRUITS of all thine increase. thine increase is either in soul winning, income, or in assets acquired.

Leviticus 23:10 says “When you come into the land which I give you and reap its harvest, then you shall bring a sheaf of the first fruits of your harvest to the priest,” the harvest in the land could be in finance or ministerial work like soul winning. It could even be children. Your first child in the land should be given to God. All through scripture, the Isrealites gave their farm produce. Paul was in ministry so he was a soul winner.

    • Olajire

Let us just conclude that RCCG is now into full religious 419. Christ is our First Fruit, any other payment of any first fruit is denying the death of Jesus Christ and the shedding of his precious blood for the salvation of all. And this automatically means rejecting Jesus Christ as Lord and saviour. This is the greatest curse anyone can bring on himself and his entire household. For me and my family, we shall not fall victim to religious scam in the name of first fruit. All you false prophets, you must repent and stop laying curses on your church members. Jehovah is sending his final warning to you to change your ways

      • Mayowa Pitan

        Hi bro….

There is something I observe about the Redeemed Christian Church of God and some prophets when it comes to giving God money. They are honest about it. There is a blessing in obedience, RCCG will preach obedience and holiness. So don’t be surprised if RCCG asks you to give God money. Even if God does not command you to do it, RCCG will ask you to do it if it could provoke the blessings of God. In RCCG for example, they don’t necessary collect offerings in every meeting but they advise people to give an offering in every gathering of believers. Reason is that there is a blessing attached to it. I can’t go into the details here. Let me tell you the truth, even if there is no bible reference to back it up, RCCG will still ask you to pay if God will bless you for it. Honestly speaking, if RCCG needs money, they ask (I have seen several instances when/where they do). But when it comes to tithe giving and offering and first fruits, they have a point of duty to charge you to pay it. It is for your own good. It is true that they use the money for kingdom purposes, but that is not the goal. The goal is to bless you. As funny as this may sound, it is the truth. God bless us all. I pay quite a lot as first fruits or tithe. It is not really convenient, but I know that God owns me and my money. It will be rewarding if I honor Him with my substance. Shalom

      • Steph

Thanks for your well-reasoned post. I am ashamed to state that I was once a worker in the Redeemed church.

This teaching is blatant falsehood. The only giving that is acceptable before God in this New Testament dispensation is freewill, cheerful giving- 1 corin 9:7! Swindling money off the redeemed of God based on a parochial interpretation of the OT is unconscionable. Christ is our first fruit, and he has redeemed us from the curse of the Law forever. Indeed the love of money is the root of all evil.

  2. Fatoye mary

Please I have a question am a copper and I wanted to pay my firstfruit can I take it to the or to my pastor because my daddy is the pastor or I should take it to another church

    • John Vincent

Where will I give my first fruits? Leviticus 23:10, give your first fruits to the priest, priest means to your pastor, the one who leading the church, the one who are leading all the people. Pastor, Leader, Disciple leader. etc. If your father the one who leading the people, then u must give it to him your first fruit.

    • Oluchi

Dear Mary yes your dad is the pastor, please send through his office as a pastor and not as a dad. However if you are not convinced, you can give through the online page advised on the Rccg site and the blessings shall be yours. I am a living testimony. God bless you.

    • Olajire

They want to eat all your first fruit alone, they won’t even want to own dad that suffered to bring you up to enjoy the work of his hand. God must surely punish all those evil churches. The wrath of God will visit them soon

      • Campbell

Why not mind your business @Olajire. You are a mouthpiece for the devil and we rebuke you in Jesus name. Leave pastors to God to judge, you have no right to say anything against them. Only bitter people spit out rubbish like you. Watch out, the endtime church is just starting:wealth will flow into the church like never before.

    • Fadare Michael

Sister Fatoye, First fruit is paid like the tithe and offering, you will only have to label it accordingly so it will not be mistaken for either tithe and offering. Also, note that first fruit will be remitted to the national during the monthly remittance. So, it does not have to do with if your daddy is the pastor or not.

    • Francis Gyasi

Okay from knowledge of the concept of first fruit, the first fruit is offered as an offering to one who you have taken as your man of God

    • Josephine

Your entire salary for January is the increase of your labor for the year. The concept of first fruit is the first and the best. Its an act of faith .your salary is reward of your labour so if you want to give it then give all.I can understand the concerns but this is what it is.God bless you.

      • Olusola Adekanye

As a salary earner, you divide your monthly salary into the number of days that you worked. Your earnings for the first day is your first fruit and not your entire salary for the month.

  3. Oginni oluwadare oladayo

I am a business man a redeemed member, please is first fruit offering is the first money I made from my business? And someone dash my family money for the new year, the money supposed to enter my account on December due to bad network it didn’t buy I finally got the money by first January 1 can I make that money as first fruit?

  4. Ebenezer Folorunso sunny

Now that we know first fruits must be deliver to high priest! How can we take it to daddy G. O As the high priest of RCCG?

  5. Knowledge seeker

What the first fruit is NOT?

is the first fruit a believers entire Income (100%) for every first month of the year (January)?

  6. Adebanjo Sunday

There are only 4 banks, Gtb, Zenith, UBA, Stanbic.
I dont have an account with any of these 4 banks. How do i go about it?

  7. Oluchi

I have a job already. How do I pay first fruit of this job? What exactly is my first fruit as in percentage? Is it just an increment on my salary ?

    • Joyful

Simple understanding of the scripture pertaining to salary earners should be the ‘increase on emoluments’ not the whole of Jan salary. The new year comes with salary increase or previous 13th month salary. Added together takes care of first fruit. If no salary increase or 13th month, whatever first cash either gift, business profit is for first fruit. You pay only tithe from Jan salary that has no increment. If God demand from you the total, it is a personal conviction. The pastor/ leader/ where you pay to is God’s divine direction. Enough of forced doctrines.

  8. Dave

Great, I really enjoyed reading this piece. Thank you and God bless you for the effort. Meanwhile, I’ll like to recieve more of this sort of messages probably on various subjects too. Thanks and stay blessed.

  9. Mary

The money made from my first transaction of month/year or all d sales made through d first month of d year. Which one is my first fruit?

  10. Dear Admin,
I must sincerely appreciate the good work done on this site. God bless you mightily in Jesus name. Amen

Please, i want to make a suggestion and i will appreciate, if treated as fundamental observation…. please this site required security certificate……is not secured

  11. Ade Ade

First fruit is from the old testament. Pray that God direct you. The current church is a thief if they are collecting first fruit as your entire salary. Bunch of THIEVES. God almighty judge you all very soon in Jesus name. Somebody say Amen.

    • Babalola Johnson

It is wrong for you to call people or churches name. Aren’t you a child of God. The way and manner you address people does not portray as a good Christian. See Matt 12:36-37 and 7:1.
This subject is biblical, I have checked the INTERNET for books on this subject written by great MOG from oversea country. If you have no personal conviction pls remain silent until you are convinced. Thanks and stay blessed.

    • Ikuerowo Tokunbo Samuel

Ye shall not die but live…… Is the bible passage in old testament apply to you? The even if first fruit is in old testament, it is still God’s instructions. As matter of fact, nobody force anybody to pay. It is a conviction.

  12. Can I give my first salary as my first fruit? But I taught the bible says that the first fruit should be from what u sowed and harvest like grains, fruits or wine and add it with your tithe., is money included?

  13. Grace Johnson

Goodday, please i need clarification on Firstfruit. As an employee is it my first salary or the first gift received in the year. Thank You.

    • Adegboyega motunrayo

I just got a job , how will I go about my first fruit

  14. Joy Olukaiyeja

Thank you for your teaching. Its awesome. Please I want to ask in our present time, how often are we supposed to pay our first fruit? Is it yearly as often as we have an increase in our income since we are not all farmers.

  15. Please the information on how to pay the first fruit online is not clear. Please I need urgent to the part that requires ‘cvv’ what are we expected to type in there? Because i have tried several options but it’s not working. Thanks

  16. Isile Joy

  17. Philip Esomonu

concerning FIRST FRUIT, my questions are:
    1. Before now, i choose to be given my offering of first fruit to God’s alter in my church secretly after my family prayers, BUT this year 2019, i thought of gathering ALL the priest within the diocese for a feast using my first fruit offering to fix that. is it right?.

    2. though am a salary earner, some necessary deductions are made from my salary, what should i do regarding that?

    3. somethings: in the 1st month of the year; i gain some overtime pay and that is what my family feeds on with faith until next month pay comes. Should i continue taking the O/T pay or give it up as first fruit.

PLEASE I NEED CONSCIOUS and spiritual mind-full REPLY ASAP.

Please want to understand this. In giving first fruit do I need to pray to know the priest to give to or to the Priest that teaches and practice it in his church? Thanks

  19. Glory Sunday

Good evening. Please love to this. In giving my firstfruit offering, do I need give to the priest of my church or Priest that teaches and practices it in his church since mine doesn’t?

  20. Jane

I am into buying and selling. How do I calculate my first fruit?
Should it be my first sale for the year? Or everything I sell in the month of January?
I need a honest reply on this.

  21. lizzy

Thanks for this teaching….. I got a new job but it’s still same job like the last one but the pay is higher than the former does this mean I have to pay the whole money or just d increase on it.I will be glad to receive an answer ASAP…..Tnks

  22. Shalom Friends! It is greatly unfortunate, that many believers today undermined the teachings of the holy bible. They seek just who will prophesy, to them, and eventually victims of false teachers and prrophets/ess, if true.In the event of such true position of pastors, teachers, fear sholudnot stop one, from divine exposition of God’s words.Bible is not a puzzle. It is divine inspiration of the Holy Ghost.God’s own words. With God, promise and performance are inseparable. When God n makes a propmise, that promise is His yes, and His only Son Jesus is the guarantee of its fulfillment (2Cor1:20 ).Our amen is an attestation of our trust and confidence in His words.Poor compliment it is if we respond to God’s beautiful and gracious yes, with a faltering amen, no matter what .

  23. Enkay

I usually use my first fruit to do something in the house of God because our church is in need of a lot of things and we don’t have buoyant people.
    Is this right?

  24. Chris

    Good evening,
I’m trying to understand first fruits offering. What is first fruit offering in this day and age for an employee already in a job? Is it my first weeks wages from my monthly pay and does this have to be sown in the church or can it go to a charity or another Christian organisation?
If in employment, when will I give my first fruit offering for the second and third etc?
    Thank you very much

  25. Isaac phiri

concerning giving in the house of the Lord is how you purposes in your heart because Abraham gave thithe as he purposes in his heart no one told him, again in book of 2Corinthians 9:7 it says as you purposes in your heart.. So to my understanding of the bible concerning giving is through the conviction of the Holy Spirit about the word of God. Let us give in the house of the Lord because they are lots of works to do with all the incomes in the church. and all the incomes works, not only on pastors there are lots of activities in the church.

  26. Folasade Odukoya

If yes Pls give biblical reasons in other to be able to help. Thanks

  28. Elisha Hemanth

I just wanted to make my doubt clear, we should give our first month salary to our church or our paster.
Please give me a clarity with some clear reference.

  29. Chioma Ogbete-ezeh

First fruit of anything God accepts it.there is no command in the Bible that says ,we should convert it to money that is man’s teaching.I call it Basar.
On where to drop your offering, the Bible states in 1crth 9:11-12.that any one you benefit from spiritually should equally benefit from your substance. There is no mistake with God.We should be careful of material pastors, they are everywhere.

The issue of don’t talk about pastors or pastors making threats of death or harm is not the new testament spirit.Paul was flogged, spoken bad of and he made no threat.Jesus our forerunner was thoroughly abused,he made no threat.threat making or putting fear in people because the speak against a pastor is not the the spirit of’s not God’s will.Jesus warned that those that believe in him will suffer Many things.leave it to God, to decide how to handle such matters.

  30. Tonny Kirangwa

Assuming I earn a gross of $2500.00 per month and I decide to give my entire January salary as a first fruit. Does it mean i give $2500.00 and no tithe? OR I first deduct tithe of $250.00 then I give the remaining $2250.00 as a first fruit?
    Many thanks

    • Obinna

If you’re paying your entire salary as first fruit, there is no need for tithe. On the other side, if you decide to pay tithe and give the remaining as first fruit, it all still goes to the same God. The most important part of the principle is to trust (ie faith) and obey (ie do what you have believed by faith).

  31. Salome

Also am also doing a contribution at work,a certain amount is usually taken from my salary, am confused also how do I go about my first fruit, help please tnk you

  32. Esther

Deuterony 26 explains FIRSTFRUITS ARE SOME NOT ALL of the firstfruits. “take some of the firstfruits of all that you produce“
Also it is not just about giving but also Honoring God by saying how he has taken care of you and worshipping Him. Other verses explain firstfruits must be good quality not broken or injured (to honor God.) but God is not about making his people destitute.
    Here is Deut 26
“When you have entered the land the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance and have taken possession of it and settled in it, 2 take some of the firstfruits of all that you produce from the soil of the land the Lord your God is giving you and put them in a basket. Then go to the place the Lord your God will choose as a dwelling for his Name 3 and say to the priest in office at the time, “I declare today to the Lord your God that I have come to the land the Lord swore to our ancestors to give us.” 4 The priest shall take the basket from your hands and set it down in front of the altar of the Lord your God. 5 Then you shall declare before the Lord your God: “My father was a wandering Aramean, and he went down into Egypt with a few people and lived there and became a great nation, powerful and numerous. 6 But the Egyptians mistreated us and made us suffer, subjecting us to harsh labor. 7 Then we cried out to the Lord, the God of our ancestors, and the Lord heard our voice and saw our misery, toil and oppression. 8 So the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, with great terror and with signs and wonders. 9 He brought us to this place and gave us this land, a land flowing with milk and honey; 10 and now I bring the firstfruits of the soil that you, Lord, have given me.” Place the basket before the Lord your God and bow down before him. 11 Then you and the Levites and the foreigners residing among you shall rejoice in all the good things the Lord your God has given to you and your household.“

  33. OKe Nneka Blessing

I also want to stress alittle that, for those of us who cannot drop their first Fruit at once can always spread it within some months having an agreement with God on how you want to pay,but most importantly u most pay all.Am telling you dis system worked wonders for me. Praise God.

  34. Bright

Good Evening Children of God, Am a Christian, and I really fear God, my ultimate is making heaven, prior to joining your group I came across a post on usury and interest and out of curiousity I went deep to read about what both means, I read a lot of passage in the Bible where Bible condemns earning interest on loans , this led to my question , is it right for Christian to invest in a savings account in a commercial bank , fixed deposit , and certificate of deposit. From my investigation I discovered banks earn profits from loans from anyone , it could be from the poor or the rich. It doesn’t matter to the commercial banks, It’s been given me headache . And where can Christians invest that is not related to usury or debts?

  35. Jeremiah Eteng

I’ve gone through the whole message on first fruit but I long to know the quoter or how to calculate first fruit. Because one pastor in his preaching said we are not supposed to give the whole January salary but a handful of it.
