BEFORE SEALING THE MARRIAGE, THE OFFICIATING PASTOR SHALL DECLARE: Beloved brethren, we are gathered here today (date) before God and this Congregation to join Brother. and Sister -in Holy Matrimony. Marriage is an honourable status ordained by God Himself before the fall of man, and it symbolizes the union between Christ and the Church.

That Christ sanctions marriage is evidenced by the fact that He honoured an invitation to a wedding in Cana of Galilee and He performed His first miracle there. Also, Apostle Paul pointed out that marriage is honourable among men.

Therefore, marriage should not be rushed into to satisfy carnal lust. It has to be approached with dignity and the fear of the Lord.

Why is there marriage?

Firstly, marriage is for mutual fellowship

Secondly, marriage is to check the sinful life of adultery, so that those not gifted to be continent can marry and thus keep themselves holy as the Body of Christ.

Thirdly, marriage is ordained for the purpose of rearing children that would be nursed to fear the Lord, abide with the teachings of His words and glorify His holy name. This agreement these two have reached and are to be joined together today.

From the foregoing, therefore, if anybody has any reason or reasons they should not be joined in holy matrimony; such a person should mention it now (the Pastor pauses for possible response). If there is none, let remain silent on this marriage for ever.

(While standing, the Bridegroom unveils the bride as they face each other) The Minister asks the Couple to be:

Now, both of you should realize that those joined contrary to the wish of God are not acceptably joined together in the sight of the Almighty God. Therefore, does either of you have reason or reasons you should not be joined together in holy matrimony? (The Pastor pauses for their responses)

The Bridegroom's pledge before the Officiating Minister.

The Minister will ask thus: Brother _______________ do you engage this Woman in marriage, so that both of you will live together according to God's order on marriage? Will you love her, honour her, counsel her, nurse her both in the circumstances of plenty and poverty, sound health and illness? Will you leave other women and cleave to her alone as long as both of you are alive?

If the man agrees, he should pledge thus: Yes, I do.

 Likewise, the Minister will seek the Woman's pledge thus:

Sister ____________ do you want this man to be your husband, so that both of you will do you want this man live together according to the will of God concerning Marriage? Will you love him, obey him, nurse him both in poverty, sound health and illness? Will you reject other men and cleave to him alone as long as both of you are alive? plenty and

If the Woman accepts, she should pledge thus:

Yes, I do.

After this, the Officiating Minister should ask the Congregation:

Who gave away this Woman in Marriage?

(The Father or Mother or any person chosen for the purpose comes forward to give the right hand of the lady to the Officiating Minister, who in turn hands her over to the Man.)

MAKING AGREEMENT OR MARITAL VOW

Holding the woman by the right hand on the wrist, as the man pledges thus (saying after the Minister)

ORDER OF SERVICE FOR MARRIAGE CEREMONY

1, Brother ---- accept you, Sister ----as my wife as from today, to have and to hold, for better, for worse, in plenty, in poverty, in good health and in sickness. I will love you and nurse you according to the will of God, till death do us part.

After this, the Woman holds the Man's right hand by the wrist and declares (saying after the Minister).

1, Sister -------------- as from today accept you, Brother ---- ------as my husband, to have and to hold, for better, for worse, I will love you in plenty, in poverty, in good health and in sickness. I will nurse and obey you according to the will of God, till death do us part.

I joyfully and wholeheartedly accept this Bible as a seal of our Covenant today. May God help me to follow the guidance of His words in patience and humility towards God and you ________ my husband, for the joy of our family, in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen

The Minister then lays both hands on the Bride and Bridegroom together and prays for them on their knees.

After getting up from their knees, the Officiating Minister holds the couple's right hands together and raising them up saying:

For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife; and they twain shall be one flesh. So then they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

  3. In the midst of life, we stay in death. From whom shall we seek help but from you our Lord who is justified to be annoyed because of our sins?
  4. Lord God Most High, Almighty God, Holy Saviour and the Most Merciful, do not put us in painful agony of everlasting death.
  5. Lord, you know the secret things of our hearts. Do not be deaf unto our prayers. Most Holy God, Holy Saviour and Most Merciful God, spare us. You are the Most Righteous Judge, Do not

allow us fall away from you because of death.

  1. We shall also read these words (after the corpse has been lowered into the vault)

  1. As it pleases the Almighty God in His great Mercy to receive the soul of this dear brother/Sister who has left this place and of a fact, without doubting the hope of resurrection into life everlasting through our Lord Jesus Christ, who shall transform our poor bodies into His own likeness which is glorious, according to the mighty works by which He could subdue all principalities by Himself.

  2. RCCG 765 - Sleep On, Beloved, Sleep, And Take Thy Rest;
  3. Sleep on, beloved, sleep, and take thy rest;

Lay down thy head upon thy Saviour's breast;

We love thee well, but Jesus loves thee best:

Good-night! Good-night! Good-night!

  1. Calm is thy slumber as an infant's sleep;

But thou shalt wake no more to toil and weep;

Thine is a perfect rest, secure and deep:

Good-night! Good-night! Good night!

  1. Until the shadows from this earth are cast,

Until He gathers in His sheaves at last;

Until the twilight gloom is overpast,

Good-night! Good-night! Good night!

  1. Until the Lord's new glory floods the skies,

Until the dead in Jesus shall arise,

And He shall come, but not in lowly guise,

Good-night! Good-night! Good night!

  1. Until, made beautiful by Love Divine,

Thou in the likeness of thy Lord shalt shine,

And He shall bring that golden crown of thine,

Good-night! Good-night! Good-night!

  1. Only "Good night!" beloved not "farewell"

A little while, and all His saints shall dwell

In hallowed union, indivisible

Good-night! Good night! Good night!

  1. Until we meet again before His throne

Clothed in the spotless robe He gives His own,

Until we know even as we are known

Good-night! Good-night! Good-night!

RCCG 790 - We Speak Of The Realms Of The Blest

  1. We speak of the realms of the Blest,

Of that country so bright and so fair,

And oft are its glories confess'd;

But what must it be to be there?

  1. We speak of its pathways of gold,

Of its walls deck'd with jewelsi rare,

Its wonders and pleasures untold; most

But what must it be to be there?

  1. We speak of its freedom from sin,

From sorrow, temptation, and care,

From trials without and within;

But what must it be to be there?

  1. We speak of its anthems of praise,

Just with which we can compare

The sweetest on earth we can raise;

But what must it be to be there?

  1. We speak of its service of love,

Of the robes which the glorified wear,

The church of the First-born above;

But what must it be to be there?

  1. Do Thou, Lord, 'midst pleasure of woe,

Still for Heaven our spirits prepare;

And shortly we also shall know

And feel what it is to be there.

The following hymns are recommended.

RCCG 595 - The Church Is One Foundation

  1. The church is one Foundation

Is Jesus Christ her Lord;

She is His new creation,

By water and the Word;

From heaven He came and sought her

To be His holy bride;

With His own blood He bought her,

And for her life He died.

  1. Elect from every nation,

Yet one o'er all the earth,

Her charter of salvation,

One Lord, one faith, one birth;

One holy Name she blesses,

Partakes one holy food,

And to one hope she presses,

with every grace endued.

  1. Though with a scornful wonder,

Men see her sore oppressed,

By schisms rent asunder,

By heresies distressed,

Yet saints their watch are keeping,

Their cry goes up, "How long?"

And soon the night of weeping

Shall be the morn of song.

  1. Mid toil and tribulation,

And tumult of her war,

She waits the consummation of peace for evermore;

Till with the vision glorious

Her longing eyes are blest,

And the great church victorious

Shall be the church at rest.

  1. Yet she on earth hath union

With God the Three in One,

And mystic sweet communion

With those whose rest is won.

O happy ones and holy!

Lord, give us grace that we,

Like them, the meek and lowly,

On high may dwell with Thee.

  1. Here, gracious God, do thou

For evermore draw nigh;

Accept each faithful vow,

And mark each suppliant sigh;

In copious shower

On all who pray

Each holy day

Thy blessings pour.

  1. Here may we gain from heaven

The grace which we implore;

And may that grace, once given,

Be with us evermore,

Until that day

When all the blest

To endless rest

Are call'd away.

RCCG 728 - Christ Is Our Corner - Stone

  1. Christ is our Corner-stone,

On Him alone we build;

With His true saints alone

The courts of Heaven are filled:

On His great love

Our hopes we place

Of present grace

And joys above.

  1. Oh, then with hymns of praise

These hallowed courts shall ring:

Our voices we will raise

The Three in One to sing;

And thus proclaim In joyful song,

Both loud and long,

That glorious Name.

  1. Here, gracious God, do thou

For evermore draw nigh;

Accept each faithful vow,

And mark each suppliant sigh;

In copious shower

On all who pray

Each holy day

Thy blessings pour.

  1. Here may we gain from heaven

The grace which we implore;

And may that grace, once given,

Be with us evermore,

Until that day

When all the blest

To endless rest

Are call'd away.

  3. RCCG 49 - Pleasant Thy Courts Above
  4. Pleasant are thy courts above

In the land of light and love;

Pleasant are Thy courts below

In this land of sin and woe.

O, my spirit longs and faints

For the converse of Thy saints,

For the brightness of Thy face,

For Thy fullness, God of Grace!

  1. Happy birds that sing and fly

Round Thy altars, O most High;

Happier souls that find a rest

In a heavenly Father's breast.

Like the wandering dove that found

No repose on earth around,

They can to their ark repair

And enjoy it ever there.

  1. Happy souls, their praises flow

Even in this vale of woe;

Waters in the desert rise,

Manna feeds them from the skies:

On they go from strength to strength

Till they reach thy throne at length,

At thy feet adoring fall,

Who hast led them safe through all.

  1. Lord, be mine this prize to win;

Guide me through a world of sin;

Keep me by Thy saving grace;

Give me at Thy side a place.

Sun and shield alike thou art;

Guide and guard my erring heart;

Grace and glory flow from thee;

Shower, O shower them, Lord, on me!

  1. RCCG 28 - Now Thank We All Our God
  2. Now thanks we all our God

With heart and hands and voices,

Who a wondrous thing hath done,

In whom His world rejoices;

Who, from our mothers' arms,

Hath bless'd us on our way

With countless gifts of love,

And still is ours to-day.

  1. O May this bounteous God

Through all our life be near us,

With ever-joyful hearts

And blessed peace to cheer us,

And keep us in His grace,

And guide us when perplexed,

And free us from all ills

In this world and the next.

  1. All praise and thanks to God

The father now be given,

The Son and Him who reigns,

With them in highest heaven

The One, Eternal God,

Whom earth and heaven adore;

For thus it was, is now,

And shall be evermore

  1. Spirit divine, attend our prayers,

And make our hearts Thy home;

Descend with all Thy gracious Powers,

O come, great Spirit, come.

Our need of Thee below;

And lead us in those paths of life

Where all the righteous go.

  1. Come as the fire-and purge our hearts

With sacrificial flame;

Let our whole self an offering be

To our Redeemer's name.

  1. Come as the dew-and sweetly bless

This consecrated hour;

May bereness rejoice to own

Thy fertilising power.

The wings of peaceful love;

And let Thy Church on earth become

Blest as the Church above.

To the cross where Thou hast died;

Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer, blessed Lord,

He taught me how to watch and pray,

And live rejoicing ev'ry day;

Happy day, happy day,

When Jesus washed my sins away!

  1. Tis done the great transaction's done;

I am my Lord's, and He is mine;

He drew me and I followed on,

Charmed to confess the voice divine.

  1. Now rest, my long-divided heart,

Fixed on this blissful center, rest;

Nor ever from thy Lord depart,

With Him of every good possessed.

  1. High heaven that hears the solemn VOW,

That vow renewed shall daily hear!

Till in life's latest hour I bow,

And bless, in death, a bond so dear.

  1. The day is come this is the feast

I give my flesh for you

And I offer my blood to all

I shall take same with you

Then all tears shall be wiped away

Our Joys shall know no end

Throughout the whole world shall many

And how great my glory

But continue and admin'ster this

In remembrance of me

  1. RCCG 658 - Far Away The Noise Of Strife Upon My Ear

  1. Far away the noise of strife upon my ear is falling,

Then I know the sins of earth be set on ev'ry hand;

Doubt and fear and things of earth in vain to me are calling,

None of these shall move me from Beulah Land.

I'm living on the mountain, underneath a cloudless sky,

I'm drinking at the fountain that never shall run dry;

Oh yes, I'm feasting on the manna from a bountiful supply,

For I am dwelling in Beulah Land.

  1. Far below the storm of doubt upon the world is beating,

Sons of men in battle long the enemy withstand;

Safe am I within the castle of God's word retreating,

Nothing then can reach me 'tis Beulah Land.

  1. Let the stormy breezes blow, their cry cannot alarm me,

I am safely sheltered here, protected by God's hand;

Here the sun is always shining, here there's naught can harm me,

I am safe forever in Beulah Land.

  1. Viewing here the works of God, I sink in contemplation,

Hearing now His blessed voice, I see the way is planned;

Dwelling in the spirit, here I learn of full salvation,

Gladly will I tarry in Beulah Land.

  1. RCCG 686 - Like The Woman At The Well
  2. Like the woman at the well I was seeking

For things that could not satisfy.

And then I heard my Savior speaking.

"Draw from my well that never shall run dry".

Fill my cup Lord, I lift it up, Lord;

Come and quench this thirsting of my soul.

Bread of heaven, feed me till I want no more

Fill my cup, fill it up and make me whole.

  1. There are trillions in this world who are craving

The pleasures earthly things afford

But none can match the wondrous treasure

That I find in Jesus Christ my Lord

  1. So, my brother, if the things this world gave you

Leave hungers that won't pass away,

My blessed Lord will come and save you,

If you kneel to Him and humbly pray.

RCCG 688 - Lord, To Whom Except To Thee

  1. Lord, to whom except to Thee

Shall our wandering spirits go;

Thee Whom it is light to see,

And eternal life to know?

Awful is that life of Thine,

Which the spirit's Breath inspires;

And the food must be Divine

Which each new born soul desires

  1. Israel on the heavenly seed

Fed and died in days of yore:

But the souls, that on Thee feed,

Never thirst nor hunger more.

Lord, to whom except to Thee

Shall we go when ills betide?

Who except Thyself can be

Hope and help and strength

And guide?

  1. Who can cleanse the soul from sin,

Hear the prayer, and seal the vow?

Who can fill the void within,

Blessed Saviour, who but Thou?

Therefore evermore I'll give

Laud and praise, my God, to Thee;

Evermore in Thee I live,

Evermore live Thou in me.
